This past weekend marked me and Brian’s second full week of owning our first house together. We’ve been packing, moving, unpacking, driving to Home Depot (at least once every day since we moved in) and “settling in” to our new life together. It’s been a LOT of fun, but also very exhausting. We’re now, finally, on the last stretch of finishing up all of our little projects (thank goodness!).

For me, this has meant that my “full time job” was putting together the house as much as possible, and in doing so I put aside writing, photographing and processing my photos. My new book even came out during this timeframe and I have barely had the chance to even look through its pages! But all that is changed … I’m finally settling in to a “real” home, one I won’t move from for a long while (crossing fingers). I also have dedicated spaces to work and create, including a beautiful room just for food photography! That room is still in-progress, but when it’s finished and put together I’ll definitely share some photos.

Overall, I gotta say that I’m really happy to be in Portland. I’ve been back-and-forth for a while now, and that drive from Seattle is agonizing. Portland is a beautiful city, with great food and beer, and the people are pretty awesome, too. :) Plus, I’m just a short drive away from the Columbia River Gorge and all of it’s beautiful mossy-green waterfalls, just like with this image I photographed a few months back at Falls Creek Falls. There’s something calming about sitting near a raging waterfall with no one else around, and I can’t wait to head out with my camera again.

    Stunning photo.

Make sure you get to Lower Oneonta Falls. It is a fun hike up the river, and is incredibly rewarding.
