I’m coming up on some more travel to Southeast Asia (heading to Cambodia in a few months), and it got me wanting to revisit some of my Vietnam images from last year. I still have so many that I haven’t had the chance to really look at and properly share … there just never seems to be enough time in the day to do everything.

One thing I know best about traveling as a photographer is that if you want to get the good stuff you must get up early. Get up when the locals get up, head to the market, walk through “touristy” areas before the tourists show up

That’s what I did here.

Not only was I practically the only person at this location, there was some pretty decent atmosphere in the air … mist, soft light, and just overall beautiful conditions for photography. Beating the rush of people also allowed me to take time to set up, photograph, and then re-compose and do it again. I didn’t have to work around lots of other people. It was perfect.

I’m really looking forward to plenty of more travel in the next year. On my list (some of it definitely happening, some of it is on my wish-list) are Cambodia, Australia, and Norway … all places I’ve never been to before. I can’t wait!

Love the shot.  I know what you mean about getting the time to process and use/show all of the images you take, I have whole shoots that I have not even touched…  Need to clone myself… but my clone better like sitting in front of the computer for hours on end so I can shoot more.

Love it. Know what you mean about getting up early. Few years back I was in Chicago and had the opportunity to shoot Cloud Gate (aka The Bean) early in the morning. No one around.

Fantastic shot – I was there last year too….but we got sick with bird flu and missed half of our stay in Vietnam. Cambodia was so wonderful – great people despite their tragic past.

I’m not sure what my plan is yet, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be in Australia next year! Any suggestions on where I should go or things that would be really cool to do while I’m there?
