I created this image at a recent stock photo-shoot and was curious what you think the “bad news” that the doctor just told the mom could have been. Let me know by leaving a comment below!
Caption contest, anyone? ;)

When I see this photo I think she was just told she has cancer
Her daughter (background) is pregnant?
I would say a life changing illness, e.g. diabetes, cancer, hepatitis, etc.
I like David’s thoughts. Though at first I thought that her daughter was dyeing and has three months to live, but being pregnant sounds better.
Its not mine! I swear!
Your daughter is 3 months pregnant.
I might have to change mine to pregnant.. First thought is Cancer but after looking again.. Pregnant is totally it.
“Don’t worry – people superglue their hands to their faces all the time.”
They could also be tears of relief… “Your daughter will be fine”
Doctor is delivering bad news that her husband, the daughter’s father, has passed away.
My first thought was pregnant, then I read everyones responses.
“Your daughter’s urine was positive for opiates.”
Malaria! Tuberculosis! Hepatitis! Tropical diseases! Oh, my!
Ok… maybe you had to be there…
First thought was cancer.
I want to offer another impulse thought I had upon seeing this photo and that is that perhaps the woman is displaying a moment of relief after receiving good news. The Dr.’s face is calm and sympathetic.
Pregnant, that’s the forehead slap of stupidity.
“Unexpectedly Expecting”. Yeah, my first thought was pregnant too.
Pregnancy. Whatever it is isn’t good news.
Somebody’s pregnant
Honestly, when I first saw it, I didn’t think she had gotten any bad news. I thought she was not feeling well. I also didn’t know the man was a doctor, I thought he was her husband.
You’re going to be a grandma!
I’m sorry, but I was just informed that Indiana Jones 5 was about to go into production!
First thought was that the girl is pregnant, but in looking more, I think it looks a bit staged and the emotions not real. Perhaps because the doctor doesn’t look concerned? Or the room is too clean and color coordinated to be a real doctors’ office? Or the hair is too perfect behind the woman’s ear? Or the photo has cropped too much off the doctor’s face and body?
“I’m sorry, but being a teenager is not a treatable illness.”
I think pregnant works the best. Something about the way the daughter is looking at her, I’m not sure.
sorry but James isn’t her father afterall.
I think pregnant for the same reasons as Alicia.
errr, how about this. “She has to visit the clinic regularly for a while, a complete recovery will take several years.”
All doctors try and look not too concerned….I go with that she is pregnant! (And mom will have to raise the kid!)
“Gee Doc I can’t afford you! I hope Universal Healthcare passes soon.”
Daughter pregnant, definitely. That was my first thought.
Different question though: You can afford to hire multiple models to do stock photos? That is, you earn enough off the stock images to pay for all the costs, including multiple models, studio, image editing, etc?
Can you share some secrets there?
Pregnant
My take is a serious illness. Cancer, leukemia etc. I see grief on the mom, not anger, shock etc. I think if the daughter was pregnant we’d see a different reaction.
[...] I posted a photo asking what you guys thought it might be “saying” to you, and then someone put the idea [...]
The doctor is consoling the Woman after the “expected passing” of a loved one.
daughter is pregnant and doctor is her boyfriend…
her baby died
